Remembrance Day ceremonies restricted to INVITE ONLY, despite being outdoors

The First World War ended on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m. — the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

Remembrance Day is our time to commemorate that armistice, and honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom.

But this year, I can't help but wonder... will we even be allowed to?

As the alleged global pandemic continues, I went out to get the public's opinion on the oddity of an “invite only” Remembrance Day ceremony. In Cobourg, Ontario, the local health overlords (Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit) have outlined:

“Due to COVID-19, Remembrance Day ceremonies will be much different this year. Many of the usual Remembrance Day services and events in this area are being cancelled, reduced in size or limiting participants to only those invited.”

Local Mayor John Henderson seems to have heeded that warning. In his column in the local newspaper, The Northumberland News, published on November 5th he stated:

“Remembrance Day will be acknowledged with a small, invite only ceremony at the Victoria Park Cenotaph, but it will be available through a live stream broadcast on the Town of Cobourg’s YouTube Channel.”

It seems a bit elitist to me that we are now being told that we have to be invited to a public space to engage in a public ceremony. Under the guise of safety — and being outdoors in the ultimate ventilation system  and with the looming threat of a virus that has a recovery rate of 99.5% or higher for people under the age of 69, as per the CDC. A virus that’s so deadly that you have to be tested to even know that you have it.

These restrictions are getting embarrassing!

Have a listen to see how residents feel about restricting access to a public, outdoor ceremony, as the pandemic hysteria continues.
